What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, work in the same way, and this policy covers them too.

In the EU, a site may store or read information on your device only with your consent, unless doing so is strictly necessary for the service you asked for (Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive). The UK has the same rule in regulation 6 of PECR and, since the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, allows a few low-risk uses, such as counting visits to improve a site, without consent as long as you can object easily. We don't run analytics for visitors in Europe at all, and everywhere else we ask for your consent first.

Your choice

On your first visit, a banner offers two buttons of the same size: Accept essential, which keeps only the cookies the site needs, and Accept all, which adds analytics. Nothing is chosen for you, and nothing optional runs until you choose. Every page works the same whichever you pick.

If your browser's time zone is in Europe, including the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the site runs no analytics and shows no banner, because there is nothing to choose. We tell from the time zone your browser reports, and nothing is stored or sent to decide it.

You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page, or open your cookie settings here. Moving from Accept all to Accept essential stops analytics straight away and reloads the page. We keep your choice for six months and then ask again.

Cookies we set

Cookies on meronym.ai
NameTypeWhat it doesHow long
mrn_consentEssential, set by usRemembers whether you chose Accept all or Accept essential, and when, so the banner doesn't ask again on every page6 months
_gaAnalytics, set by Google Analytics after Accept allTells one visitor from another, so we can count visitors and see which pages they read2 years
_ga_<ID>Analytics, set by Google Analytics after Accept allKeeps track of the current visit for Google Analytics; the part after _ga_ is our site's Google Analytics ID2 years

Google Analytics sets its two cookies only after you choose Accept all, and never when your browser's time zone is in Europe. We have switched off Google signals and any link to Google's advertising products, and Google keeps the analytics data for 14 months.

This site serves its fonts from its own address, so no font service sees your visit.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as Accept essential for that browser and don't show the banner, in line with California's rules on opt-out preference signals. You can still choose Accept all from Cookie settings if you want to. The older Do Not Track setting has no agreed meaning, so we don't rely on it; choosing Accept essential gives the same result.

Cookies and AI

We don't use cookie or analytics data to train AI models or to make automated decisions about you.

Managing cookies in your browser

Your browser's settings let you see, block and delete cookies, for this site or for every site. If you block the consent cookie, the site can't remember your choice, so the banner will ask again on each visit.

Changes and contact

When we add or change a cookie, we update this page and its date first, and if the change needs your consent, the banner asks you again. Questions: info@meronym.ai. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
